Nepal edged Railways-XI by three runs for a thrilling victory in their fourth match of the New Delhi tour at the Roshanara Club grounds on Friday.
With Paras Khadka rescuing Nepal once again to take the team across 104-9 but the bowlers did extremely well to defend the low total restricting Railways-XI to 101-9. Basanta Regmi conceded only 14 runs in the final over when the hosts needed 18 runs to win from six balls.
Basanta was hit for a six off the first ball by Hitesh Kadam but bounced back well bleeding just eight runs in the last five. Railways looked right on track after openers Pratham Singh (20) and S Vignesh (15) collected 35 runs in 5.3 overs. But, three wickets from spinner Sagar Pun in his three consecutive overs turned the tide towards Nepal.
No 6 Neel Kanth and No 10 Hitesh Kadam made 12 runs each. Sagar returned with 3-9 from three overs with Amrit Bhattarai picking up two wickets. Paras also had one scalp.
Nepali openers earlier failed once again as Subash Khakurel (one) and Sagar Pun (six) headed back to the pavilion in no time. With runs hard to come by, Paras and Pradeep steadied the ship with a 40-run stand before Hitesh dismissed the latter. Pradeep made a run-a-bal 19 with two fours and a six.
Nepal kept on losing wickets at regular interval after the fall of Pradeep but Paras stayed firm to put triple figure scores in the board. Paras hit three boundaries in unbeaten innings off 47 balls. Shamshul Huda and Kadam picked up three wickets each for the local side.
Nepal will play another Railways-XI side at Roshanara on Saturday. Nepal were originally scheduled to return on November 1 after playing seven matches in New Delhi but the team will stay back further to play three more matches on Ocotber 28, November 3 and 5.
