National cricket team skipper Paras Khadka was among the five nominees announced by the Nepal Sports Jounralists Forum (NSJF) for the Pulsar Sports Award Popular Player of the Year award.The other four nominees in one of the most prestigious awards of Nepal included swimmer Sirish Gurung, wushu player Jharan Gurung, Keshari Chaudhary of Athletics and Jagjit Shrestha of football.
The Popular PoY will be declared during the Sports Award on July 2 following the SMS votes and facebook likes each players will receive. To vote a player through SMS, the voters can type PULSAR space intitials of the the name i.e PK for Paras Khadka and send it to 3131.
Paras – who had had a brilliant last year – led Nepal to title triumphs beginning the most crucial ICC World Cricket League Division-IV trophy in Malaysia in September. He also helped Nepal win the ACC Trophy Elite in UAE a month later where he performed with both bat and the ball.
Apart from ACC Trophy Paras had also put an all round display in the ACC Twenty20 Cup that was held in Kathmandu. He made 207 runs and took four wickets to guide Nepal to their first ever final in the ACC Twenty20. Paras – who had made 291 runs and picked up nine wickets in the ACC Trophy Elite in UAE – was named man-of-the-series in Nepal’s last two tournaments.
In the domestic arena, Paras’ fine batting performance in the finals of the National One-day and Twenty20 helped his team Nepal APF Club win two back-to-back titles.
Paras had made 86 against Bhairhawa in the National One-day and smashed a half century in just 26 balls against Baitadi. Apart from giving fine performance on the field, Paras has been the talk of the town last year due to his outstanding personality and outspoken attitude.
The five nominees were picked up by a seven-member players’ selection committee headed by NSJF Secretary Prakash Timalsina. NSJF will soon make public the nominees of the best players male and female, coach and youth.
