National team skipper Paras Khadka admitted his side did not play good game of cricket after losing to the Netherlands by five wickets in their second match of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Paras had said his side was targetting a top spot in Group ‘B’ which will send Nepal directly in the World Cup but after losing to the Dutch — their second in the tournament — has hit them hard.
Nepal’s fate in the group stage now not only depends on their two remaining matches but also on the result of the Netherlands upcoming fixtures. Nepal not only have to win their next two matches against Afghanistan and Bermuda but also hope the Dutch lose one and get the better of them on run rate.
“What we played was not a good game of cricket. We did not play to our potential. The total was pretty low and it was hard to defend. But still I have to appreciate our bowlers but fighting throughout the match,” said Paras.
Nepal are currently third in the group with Netherlands firmly leading with eight and both have played five matches each. Afghanistan are second with six points from fourt matches pipping Nepal on run rate so far.
Paras said the need for his side would be to play to their potential. “If we play to our potential, we can beat any team in our group. Every team in our group are pretty good and to do better we need to play better cricket,” added the skipper who himself made just five off 15 against Netherlands as Nepal only managed 107-6 today.
