Devdutt Padikkal scored his first Indian Premier League century in a record partnership with skipper Virat Kohli as Royal Challengers Bangalore climbed back to the top of Indian Premier League table with one of the most clinical defeats in Tweny20 cricket.
Padikkal, who missed the opening games for Bangalore due to Corona Virus infection, returned to share an unbroken partnership with Kohli, leading Bangalore to a crushing 10-wicket victory over Rajsthan Royals on Thursday.
Rajasthan revived their innings from 43-4 to post 177-9 in 20 overs but Padikkal and Kohli took Bangalore to 181 without loss after the former slammed first century in his IPL career for Bangalore’s fourth consecutive victory this season.
Padikkal struck 11 boundaries and six sixes in his 52-ball 101, while Kohli was unbeaten on a 47-ball 72. The Indian skipper hit six fours and three sixes.
Mohammad Siraj took three wickets as Rajasthan were reduced to 43-4 by the eighth over. Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag (25) added 66 runs to avoid any low-scoring disaster.
Dube and Rahul Tewatia did the majority of scoring to make sure they at least reach a score to have a go for their bowlers.
Dube top scored with a 32-ball 46 and Tewatia chipped in a 23-ball 40. While both the batsmen hit two sixes apiece Dube’s innings included five fours and Tewatia struck four boundaries.
Siraj took 3-27 and Harshal Patel also picked up three wickets but was hit for 47 runs.
