Oman give Nepal a reality check

Nepal have been given a
reality check ahead of their crucial ICC World
Cricket League
Championship (WCLC) matches against Papua New Guinea after Oman overcame
them by three wickets in a tour match in Abu Dhabi
on Saturday.

Nepal will
play PNG on Monday and Wednesday but
their batting frailties,
especially after batting first, doesn’t seem to
go out. It looked like
they were back to the old days with Gyanendra
Malla and skipper Paras Khadka taking the team to 184 all out in 49.3

The bowlers once again tried
to put things under control but a target
below 200 was never safe as
Oman reached 187-7 in 48.1 overs. Opener Zeeshan Maqsood top scored with
a run-a-ball 52, while Jatinder Singh chipped
in 41 off 78 that incuded three boundaries.

Shakti Gauchan picked up
3-19 from 10 overs for Nepal, while Mehboob
Alam had two scalp.

Earlier, Paras and Gyanendra
did the bulk of scoring after no other
batsman managed to reach doube
figures. The middle order mainstays shared 77 runs for the fourth
wicket. Paras was out for 49 off 75 with seven boundaries.

Gyanendra also struck seven
boundaries on his way to making 71 off
113. Bilal Khan picked up four
wickets for Oman and Khawar Ali had three scalps.
