New Horizon College of Butwal made the most of their strong bowling attack to defeat Maryiland College of Biratnagar by seven wickets and enter the semi-finals of the fourth SPA Cup on Wednesday.
After Maryland opted to bat first, it gave an ample opportunity to New Horizon to exercise the bowling fire power in the morning conditions which they did by skittling out the opponents for just 76 runs in 16.1 overs.
New Horizon though lost three wickets in their reply but a target below triple figures was all their’s to achieve reaching 79 in 9.4 overs. They lost opener Nurdhoz Sen for a duck with four runs on the board other batsman contributed the way New Horizon required.
Nirmal Thapa made an unbeaten 22 off 18 with three hits to the fence, while Sompal Kami scored 16 off 17 with three boundaries. Sandeep Sunar (14) and Prakash KC (12 not out) also chipped in from their side. Kumar Kartike picked up 2-18 from 3.4 overs with Ramnaresh Giri picking up a wicket for Maryland.
Earlier in a sorry looking Maryland scorecard only Suraj Patel and Siddhant Lohani put some fight making runs in double figures. Siddhant made 26 off 21 with three sixes and Suraj hit three boundaries and a maximum in his 22-ball 24.
Man-of-the-match Saurav Khanal took the game out of Maryland’s hands picking up 3-14 from four overs apart from affecting two run outs. Rahul Prajapati also took two wickets for the winners, while Susan Bhari Shrestha had 1-10 from four overs.
