CAN-XI crashed out of the 31st All India Uttarakhand Gold Cup after getting crushed by ONGC in Dehradun on Wednesday when the Nepali team were bundled out for a paltry 58.
The team includes six players from the ICC World Cricket League Division-III title winning squad including Prithu Baskota — the former U-19 skipper Prithu Baskota who is leading the team in Dehradun.
The ONGC team included some of the former Indian Test players in Ajay Ratra and Sarandeep Singh and it took them just 20 overs to bundle out the Nepali team that paid the price for playing rash shots.
The ONGC grinder continued even in their chase and in no time reached the target in just 6.1 overs winning the match with a bonus point.
Chandra Saud created chances for Nepal only to see Naresh and Rajesh spilling the catches.
Earlier, Openers Anil Mandal and Pradeep Airee, Naresh Budhayer, Binod Bhandari, Sagar Pun, Shakti Gauchan and Bhuwan Karki all fell for single figures collecting just 10 runs between them.
Prithu and Rajesh Pulami scored 16 runs each and headed back to the pavilion owing to their poor shot selection.
Coach Binod Das — the former national team skipper and currenlty a head coach at the National Cricket Academy — said: “It was probably the worst batting performance by Nepalese team for long time.”
“Overall it’s a very disappointing performance by the team and batting has to take all the blame for not putting up any fight on a batting track.”
Along with Prithu, the CAN-XI team headed for Dehradun with six Division-III players in country’s veteran off spinner Shakti, openers Pradeep and Anil, middle order batsman Binod and strike bowler Chandra.
Nepal’s tour ended with one victory (against Uttarakhand-XI) which followed by a 28-run loss to Dena Bank.
