Lalit Singh Bhandari, the member of Nepal’s first ever One Day International team, has been seriously injured after meeting a terrible road accident in his hometown Kanchanpur on Sunday.
Lalit’s motorcycle was hit by a truck at Jhalari Bajaar at approximately 7:30 PM. Pillion rider Karan Thagunna, his relative, escaped fatal injury but Lalit had to be taken to Dhangadhi Research Hospital in an ambulance following a primary treatment in Jhalari.
According to Ram Singh Khatri, his relative, the 28-year old left arm medium pace bowler has severe injuries in his right shoulder and waist. He was unconscious and murmuring when he was brought here. The doctors will only update after further treatment, informed Khatri.
Lalit was the part of the Nepali national team that played the country’s first ever One Day International series in the Netherlands. He had featured in the second ODI against the Dutch and picked up two wickets.
Nepal had won the match by one run to square the series and register a historic ODI triumph. Lalit made debut for the senior national team during the ICC World Cricket League Championship match against the UAE on December 6, 2017.
He also featured in the Twenty20 match against the Marylbone Cricket Club at The Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 29, 2018.
The Southpaw plays for Nepal Police Club in domestic cricket and has been a crucial member for any team in franchise Twenty20 leagues.
