Kurunnegala Youth Cricket Club of Sri Lanka has invited national cricket team batsmen Pradeep Airee and Binod Bhandari to play for it in the Sri Lanka U-23 Inter-club Cricket League.
It is the same club league played by seamer Chandra Saud and Amrit Bhattarai last year with Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club.
The Inter-club Cricket League, beginning from June 7 till July 26, includes two-day matches.
A source said that Pradeep — who is playing both at the top and middle order — and middle order batsman Binod earned the call from the Sri Lankan outfit following a recommendation from coach Pubudu Dassanayke.
Dassanayake wants the national team members to be kept busy until the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier begins in January, 2014 in New Zealand.
“If I can get Pradeep and Binod more matured, it will be a strong batting line-up (ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier),” Dassanayake told cricketingnepal.com confirming about the invitation.
Dassanayake said he had wanted opener Anil Mandal to play the U-23 league but he resisted citing personal reasons. The batting trio are playing at the Uttarakhand Gold Cup in a CAN-XI team led by former Under-19 skipper Prithu Baskota.
However, the participation of Binod and Pradeep is still not clear as they have to bear their own expenses as the club is not sponsoring their tour. The tour is expected to cost almost a half-a-million rupees.
Nepalese cricket fans had assisted Chandra and Amrit’s tour providing the duo with a collective amount of $500.
