Region No-V (Nepalgunj) chased down a big total to register their second consecutive victory in the Women’s National on Sunday at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds.
Put in to bat first, a half century from opener Kajol Shrestha lifted Biratnagar to 185 all out in 38.1 overs. After a bright start provided by opening duo of Gita Goshai and Sanju Chaudhary, Nepalgunj innings fumbled in the middle before skipper Mamta Thapa played an important knock guiding the team to 186-8 in 39.2 overs.
Gita and Sanju gave Nepalgunj a sound start with a 69-run stand for the first wicket. Nepalgunj then suffered a mini collapse losing four wickets for just 13 runs including that of their openers.
Sanju made 43 off 34 with eight boundaries and Gita was out for 23 off 46 hitting four fours. With Saraswati GM (one) retired hurt, Laxmi Chaudhary (12) took the team past triple figures with Trishna Singh (nine) before both were dismissed in a space of one run.
Mamta walked into the crease and got involved in three crucial partnerships. She shared 30 runs for the seventh wicket with Samjhan Sharma (nine), 24 with Anu KC and 27 with Saman Pun (14 not out). Samjhana made 16 off 14 and Mamta scored 30 not out from 41 balls with both hitting three fours apiece.
Earlier, Biratnagar total revolved around Kajol who opened with a 38-run partnership with Rashmi Sharma (seven) before sharing another 48 with Samjhana Budhathoki who made 29 off 33 with six boundaries. Kajol was ably supported by Sangita Rai (29), Apsari Begum (six) and Geeta Prasai.
Kajol was out for 64 off 106 balls with 11 boundaries, while Geeta made 21 off 16 with two boundaries. Trishna Singh picked up 4-27 for Nepalgunj and Samjhan Sharma picked up two wickets.
