National team coach Pubudu Dassanayake said the victory against DDCA U-25 on Wednesday was against the best team so far Nepal have played in their 10-day New Delhi tour.
“They had few good spinners and one fast bowler was also descent. This the best team we played so far after landing in New Delhi and we played well against them,” Dassanayake told cricketingnepal.com.
Though majority of Nepal batsmen managed to put some runs on board in a chase of DDCA U-25’s 123- 6, the hosts bowled well to take the match into the last over before Sharad Vesawkar sealed the victory with a six off the first ball he faced when Nepal needed six to win from the last three balls.
Dassanayake ringed two changes from Tuesday’s game replacing seamer Jitendra Mukhiya with Avinash Karn and brought in Rahul Kumar BK in place of Basanta Regmi and said he was concerned with the poor start.
“Everyone bowled well. We didn’t get the start that we had wanted from the openers. That’s the only concern I have. The middle order did well to finish the game,” said Dassanayake. Nepali openers once again failed to give a good start after Subash Khakurel – who had scored 45 and 26 in the last two matches – was dismissed for duck.
Another opener Sagar Pun finally managed to score runs making 19 after he was dismissed for four and a duck in the two previous games.
