Nepal to resume League 2 campaign with trip to Oman in a tri-series also involving USA

Nepal have been confirmed to meet USA and Oman in their second round matches of the ICC Cricket World League 2 as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced complete fixtures of the tournament on Wednesday.

All the League 2 fixtures scheduled from March had been postponed since the COVID-19 pandemic also took its toll on world cricket. Nepal were set to play 12 matches in 2020 but only completed four out of their first round games – also scheduled against Oman and USA – at the TU ground in February.

Nepal had played the ACC Twenty20 Asia Cup Eastern Region Qualifier in March in Thailand before cricket came to a halt.

The League 2 serves as qualifier for the 2023 World Cup which so far has been scheduled to take place according to the previous dates. The top three teams from League 2 will make it to the 2023 World Cup Qualifier to be held in June 18 to July 9 in Zimbabwe.

The bottom four from the seven-team League 2 will get another shot at the Qualifier competing in the Qualifier playoff – a repechage event for the Global Qualifier – also scheduled for 2023. Only the top two teams from the Qualifier playoff will make it to the Global Qualifier.

The five-team Qualifier playoff will also include the winners from ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League A and B.

In the Global Qualifier, three teams from League 2 and remaining two from Qualifier playoff will join bottom five teams from the World Cup Super League contested in by 12 Test nations along with the Netherlands. 2023 World Cup hosts India and seven teams will automatically qualify for the global showpiece of 50-over Cricket.

Only the top two teams from the Global Qualifier will qualify for the World Cup.

Nepal, who defeated the USA twice and lost to Oman twice in their League 2 opener, are currently sixth in the standings with four points.

Oman are at the top of the table with 16 points, while USA (12), Scotland (nine), Namibia (eight) and UAE (seven) are ahead of Nepal. Winless PNG are the bottom of the table having lost all their eight first matches.

Here are the remaining full fixtures of League 2
