Nepal relegated to Division 2, Qualifiers dream still alive

Nepal’s second match of sixth round fixtures of the ICC World Cricket League Championship (WCLC) against Hong Kong was called off on Monday due to continuous rain.
The match was pushed for Monday due to bad weather conditions in Hong Kong on Sunday. However, continuous rainfall caused by the passing of tropical storm Khanun in Hong Kong forced the match officials to call off the game on the reserved day as well.
The result meant Nepal are now relegated to World Cricket League Division 2 along with Namibia and UAE after finishing at the WCLC standings with 11 points from 12 matches following the penultimate rounds.
Hong Kong now have 14 points with every possibility of finishing inside the top four to qualify automatically for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe.
Nepal will now have to enter the final of Division 2 next year to make it to the Qualifiers. Nepal, who needed to win all their remaining four games to reach the Qualifiers, had lost the first match by a huge margin of 83 runs.
