Nepali U-19 team is set to train under Monty Desai who will take the role as batting consultant to help in the country’s preparation for the upcoming ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament.
The U-19 Eastern Region tournament serves as a qualifier for ACC U-19 Asia Cup slated for November this year. The Eastern Region tournament will be played from September 10-18. Malaysia are hosting both the tournaments.
Nepali U-19 coach Binod Das had said his side would need a batting coach and the Asian Cricket Council agreed to send Desai to Nepal, informed Bhawana Ghimire, former CAN Chief Executive Officer who has been liaising with the international bodies after the suspension of the country’s cricket governing body.
Desai will remain in Nepal from August 28 for a 10-day stay. The former Rajasthan Royals coach will be tasked to hone the batting skills in Nepali players.
Nepal saw its worst performance with the bat in the U-19 history when the team terribly struggled during the ICC U-19 World Cup Division 1 Qualifiers for Asian Region.
While Nepal had struggled to reach double figures targets against Singapore and Malaysia, they were bundled out for 49 and 99 against Afghanistan in both the round robin league mat matches of the Qualifiers.
