Nepal lose to Afghans by 83 runs

Nepal lost their first practice match against Afghanistan by 83 runs at the St Stephen College grounds in New Delhi.

The two teams are in a two-match friendly series ahead of the U-19 World Cup slated for January 22 to February 14. After the match was reduced to 45 overs due to wet outfield, Afghanistan piled up 232-8. Spinner Zia-Ur-Rehman did the trick for Afghans taking five wickets before bundled out Nepal for 149 in 43.1 overs.

Nepal lost their first six wickets for just 50 runs inside 21 overs after Rehman picked up four and Karim Janat had two victims. Ishan Pandey (one), Sunil Dhamala (11), Yogendra Karki (six), Aarif Sheikh (four), Raju Rijal (duck) and Rajbir Singh (seven) fell without much troubling the scorecard.

Shankar Rana and Dipendra Airee save Nepal’s blushes with a 66-run seventh wicket stand. But after both batsmen were out in a space of three balls, Nepal’s remaining hopes also diminished.
