Nepal lost their second consecutive practice match in their Sri Lanka tour with the Sri Lankan U-23 team routing them byt 133 runs at the NCC grounds in Colombo on Thursday.
It was the same side that had defeated them by seven wicket in the tour opener at the Bloomsfield grounds on Wednesday. Electing to field first, Nepal restricted the Sri Lankan team to 254-9 in 50 overs but the team was severly torned apart after being bundled out for 121 in 39 overs.
Opener Anil Mandal waged a lonely battle for Nepal making a half century and was the eighth man to be dismissed. While Prithu Baskota – the top scorer for Wednesday’s match with 42 runs – made 22 for Nepal, Shakti Gauchan was left stranded on 21 not out.
Other Nepali batsmen failed to open the account. Earlier, Basanta Regmi and Sagar Pun took two wickets each for Nepal who bowled well to restrict a strong Sri Lankan batting line-up for just above 250-run mark. Shakti Gauchan, Ram Naresh Giri, Prithu Baskota and Avinash Karn also had one scalp apiece.
Nepal meet the same team for the third time at the NCC grounds on Saturday before their fourth match. Nepal – who are preparing for the ACC Emerging Teams Cup to be held in Singapore from August 17-25 – will wrap up their tour with a match agianst a combined North-East team.
