Nepal get Kuwait in U-19 opener

Nepal will open their ACC U-19 Elite campaign with a match against Kuwait as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the fixtures for the May 3-11 event to be held in Malaysia.

Nepal are pitted in Group ‘B’ alongside Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and hosts Malaysia. Group ‘B’ comprises of defending champions Afghanistan, Hong Kong, UAE, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. After the match against Kuwait on the inaugural day, Nepal will meet Qatar on May 5 before playing Bahrain the next day.

The losing finalists of the previous edition Nepal will then wrap up the group stage with match against hosts Malaysia on May 8. The ACC U-19 Elite is Nepal’s gateway to the ICC U-19 World Cup which will be held in the UAE on 2014. Only the winners of the tournament will make it to the ICC U-19 World Cup. Since, UAE have been picked up for the tournament proper as the hosts, if they go on to win the final then the losing finalists will book the World Cup tickets.

Nepal have already begun the close-camp training for the ACC Trophy Elite with 32 players making cut for the preliminary round of selection after the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament.
