Nepal defeat HPCA in first warm-up

Nepal defeated HPCA XI by five wickets in their first warm-up Twenty20 match of their India tour.


Electing to field first the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharmashala, Nepal restricted the local side to 143-7 in 20 overs. Openers Subash Khakurel and Sagar Pun then laid the foundation for Nepal with half century stand as the visitors replied with 144-5 in 20 overs.


Subash and Sagar shared 54 runs for the opening wicket as Nepal gained an edge in their chase. Subash made 29 off 27 with five boundaries, while Sagar chipped in 23 off 29 with three boundaries.


Nepal suffered a mini collapse while losing both openers and in the process lost five wickets for 41 runs to get reduced to 97-5. Skipper Paras Khadka and Binod Bhandari were out for seven runs each, while Gyanendra Malla contributed 19 off 21.


Comeback batsman Pradeep Airee and Sharad Vesawkar then shared an unbeaten 47 runs for the sixth wicket to guide Nepal to victory. Pradeep made 23 off 12 with three boundaries, while Sharad hit a six and a four in his 13-ball 17. Akash Sharma picked up three wickets for HPCA.


Earlier, HPCA had an identical start when Raghav Dhawan and Nakul Raj gave them a 59-run opening wicket partnership. Dhawan was the chief tormentor for Nepal scoring 54 off 44 with nine hit to the fence.


Raj made 20 off 29 with a six and a four, while Abhimanyu Rana scored 21 off 12 with two fours and a six. Basanta Regmi picked up 3-27 for Nepal with all his wickets coming behind the wicket caught by Subash. Jitendra Mukhiya and Sompal Kami also had one wicket apiece.
