Nepal crushed Malaysia by 10 wickets to enter the final of the ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, .
Skipper Dipendra Singh Airee completed his second five-wicket haul in the tournament that helped Nepal bundle out Malaysia for a paltry 121 in 42 overs. Openers Sandeep Sunar and Aasif Sheikh then hit half centuries as Nepal cantered to victory in just 23.1 overs without losing a wicket.
Nepal went o lunch with 52 runs on board and the early initiative laid the foundation for a big victory as Nepali openers finally managed find form in a right time of the tournament.
Sandeep scored 51 runs from 77 deliveries hitting eight boundaries, while Shiekh scored his first half century after a long period at the U-19 level making 50 from 65 with eight fours and a hit over the fence.
Earlier, medium pacer Rohit Kumar Paudel dismissed Syed Mubarak (five) in the sixth over but a 49-run partnership between Nalin de Silva and Virandeep Singh pushed Malaysia towards a respectable total.
De Silva top scored with a 93-ball 39 with four boundaries and a six before he fell to Shahab Alam, while Virandeep scored 25 from 41 balls with four hits to the fence and lost his wicket to Dipendra.
Ammar Zuhdi Hazalan hit an eight-ball 14 before handing a catch to Pranit Thapa Magar off Dipendra. Mohammad Shahriel Aizad Mohd also made a run-a-ball 16 hitting three boundaries.
Dipendra returned the figures of 5-29 from eight overs having also picked up five wickets Bhutan in Nepal’s second Group ‘A’ match. Sarraf, who took six wickets against Singapore had the figures of 2-11 from four overs.
Sandeep Lamichhane was economical in his 10 overs conceding just 13 runs and picked up a wicket. Nepal will play the winners of another semi-final match between Hong Kong and Singapore. The winner of the final will play in November’s ACC U-19 Asia Cup which will be participated in by five Test nations and one winner from the Western Region of the continent.
