Nepal crushed a weaker looking opponents District Cricket Association Gaziabaad by 55 runs for their fifth victory in the New Delhi tour at the Nehru Cricket Stadium on Monday.
After new opening pair of Mahesh Chhetri and Pradeep Airee brought the team first half century partnership for the opening wicket, Nepal made 144-8 in 20 overs. The visitors then bundled out Gaziabaad for 89 in 17.4 overs.
With Subash Khakurel and Sagar Pun rested for the match, Pradeep and Mahesh added 53 runs in eight overs. Pradeep clobbered eight boundaries on his way to make 39 from 33 balls. Another surprise popped out when Rahul Kumar BK took to the crease at No 3 and even did well with a 33-run stand for the second wicket.
Mahesh made 22 off 26 with two fours before becoming the second Nepali wicket to fall. Nepal were steadily going but a terrible middle order collapse reduced them to 105-6 in 15.4 overs from 100-2 from 13 overs losing skipper Paras Khadka (seven), Rahul, Binod Bhandari (0) and Sharad Vesawkar (1) in quick time.
Rahul made 24 off 22 with two boundaries. Gyanendra Malla then rescued the team with a 32-run stand with Shakti Gauchan (7 not out) to take the team to comfortable score. Gyanendra chipped in 32 off 23 with four hits to the fence. Asif Mansuri took three wickets for the hosts.
The Indian side hardly coped with Nepali bowling in reply before getting packed up for a paltry score. Opener Adil Raza top scored with 22 runs for Gaziabaad, while Gaurav Tomar (17) along with Shivendra Paul (11) and Nandu Tyagi (11) made runs in double digits.
Avinash Karn picked up three wickets for Nepal. Jitendra Mukhiya and Rahul also took two each, while Paras and Shakti had one scalp apiece. Nepal will now play Invitation-XI at Bharatnagar Academy ground on Tuesday.
