Nepal crash to 79 all out against SLPACC

A Paras Khadka-less Nepal crashed to 79 all out losing their first practice game against Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club (SLPACC) by 74 runs at the Colombo Colts Cricket ground on Wednesday. Gyanendra Malla led Nepal in absence of Paras and after electing to field first, they bundled out SLPACC for just 153 runs in 43 overs. Nepal never settled in their chase losing back-to-back wickets on regular intervals before getting bundled out for 79 in 25 overs.

Nepal lost Subash Khakurel (one), Naresh Budhayer (two), Sharad Vesawkar (four) and Binod Bhandari (one) following a burst of opening spell from Madhusanka Ekanayaka. Gyanendra tried to avoid humiliation forming a modest partnership with Sagar Pun (11) and Mehboob Alam (eight).

Sagar and Mehboob lost their wickets to Anuk De Alwis and Gyanendra was dismissed by Ranesh Perera that virtually ended Nepal’s challenge. Gyanendra made 24 off 46 with two boundaries.

Basanta Regmi was Nepal’s second best scorer with 12 off 16 that included a six. Ekanayaka returned with 4-3 from five overs, while Perera took 3-22.

Earlier, SLPACC innings revolved around Gyayashan Weerasekara and Ekanayaka who contributed in the top and lower order taking the team past 150-run mark.

Weerasekara made 40 off 45 with four boundaries and a six, while No 10 Ekanayaka chipped in 35 off 43 with two fours and two sixes. Basant was the pick of the Nepal bowlers with 4-37 from 10 overs.

Bhuban Karki (2-8) and Amrit Bhattarai (2-35) shared four wickets each, while Mehboob and Sagar Pun picked up one each. Nepal will play their second match against a Combine-XI side on October 18.
