Nepal began their ACC U-16 Eastern Region tournament campaign on a high note with a crushing 133 run victory over hosts Thailand on Monday.
In the Group ‘A’ match at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, Nepal were 179 all out in 34.4 overs after they elected to bat first. Narayan Joshi then returned with a fifer as Thailand were 46 all out in 19.3 overs.
Thailand were 10-5 and 23-9 in 12.2 overs after Narayan picked ripped through the top and middle order. Kokiad Chatwong and Yodsak Saranonnakkun (seven not out) prolonged Nepal’s wait for victory with a 23-run last wicket partnership. Chatwong top scored for them with 11 from 27 deliveries hitting one boundary.
Man-of-the-match Narayan returned the figures of 5-17 from seven overs and was ably supported by Surya Tamang (2-9). Nikhil Kumar Singh and Bishal Bikram KC also picked up a wicket each for Nepal.
Kushal Malla and Rajan Magar (17) had given Nepal a modest start adding 33 runs for the first wicket. Kushal made 24 off 22 with three boundaries and a six. Skipper Rit Gautam made 16 runs but Nepal were yet to build on to the stand after they lost first four wickets for 83 runs.
Trita Raj Das and Sunil Bhandari then shared 37 runs for the fifth wicket to bail out Nepal. Trita posted a match-high 39 from 57 deliveries with four boundaries, while Sunil scored 23 off 33 with one four. Pratish GC (12) was next to cross double figures.
