NCops of Nepal Police School and Sainik Seals of Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya sailed into the semi-finals of the Wai Wai School Cricket Series on Monday.
In the Pool 2 matches held at the Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya grounds, NCops edged Everest Burners of Mount Everest School by 16 runs to register their third consecutive victory and sail through as group winners.
In a must-win game, Seals defeated Rajan Warriors of Rajan Memorial International School by three wickets following NCops in the last four as runners-up. Ncops earned nine points from three matches while Seals had six.
Warriors (three) and winless Burners will now vie in the playoffs. In the semis, Seals will meet Pool 1 winners Sainik Sharks from their own school, while NCops will take on runners-up DAV Kiwis of DAV School.
Ncops were 95 all out in 18.5 overs, a score they compiled on a back of crucial contributions from Suraj Chaudhary and Subham Chaudhary. Burners were restricted to 79-7. Openers Avinash Shah and Sandesh Aanjakhya (13) were the only Burners batsmen to make runs in double figures.
Subham and Prakash Rauniyar picked up two wickets each for NCops who were lifted by a 43-run stand between Suraj and Subham on their way to reaching close to triple figures. Suraj made 34 off 39 with four boundaries, while Subham chipped in 26 from 41. Sabin Pudasaini (3-8) and Sachindra KC (3-22) shared six wickets between them.
Seals bundled out Warriors for 84 in 16 overs but they had to go through a tough time reaching 86 losing seven wickets in 19.2 overs. Bishal Budhathoki (14) and Samit Shreshta (13 not out) were the only Seals batsmen to score in double digits. Ashim Shrestha took two wickets for Warriors.
Warriors failed to cope with Seals bowling and had a 49-run third wicket stand between Prabesh Panta (16) and Bikram Tamang to thank for. Bikram made 23 off 23 with four boundaries. Sudip Khadka picked up 4-17 for Seals. Aashish Chaulagain also had three scalps.
