National team close-camp called up from Thursday

The closed-camp for national team’s last round matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been called up with 26 out of 28 players joining the camp from Thursday.

An independent selection committee headed by ICC Representative Aminu Islam called up 26 players who are currently in Nepal and will be joined by two more from the U-19 team which is in Malaysia for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup.

Out of the 26 players, 14 from the squad that competed against Hong Kong in the sixth round matches were retained. Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar – who returned from Hong Kong after suffering from fever —  along with Basanta Regmi, Sompal Kami, Binod Bhandari, Sagar Pun, Karan KC, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, Aarif Sheikh, Lalit Singh Bhandari, Sushan Bhari Shrestha and Sushil Kandel were retained.

Naresh Budhayer – who had replaced Sharad at the last moment but couldn’t play single game – was also retained. Shakti Gauchan, Jitendra Mukhiya, Mehboob Alam, Saurabh Khanal, Hasim Ansari, Siddhant Lohani, Dilip Nath, Bikram Sob, Sunil Dhamala, Anil Mandal and Kushal Bhurtel are the others called up.

Nepal are currently at the sixth spot of the eight-team WCLC with nine points and are out from the contention of making automatic qualification for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers where the top four teams from the tournament go.

The Netherlands and Papua New Guinea have already qualified for the Qualifiers with Scotland, Hong Kong and Kenya also in the fray. Before the matches against UAE, Nepal will also play the USA on December 1 and Kenya on December 3 in UAE.
