National cricketers to be under Central Contract

Eighteen years after Nepali cricket made its appearance in international cricket through the 1996 ACC Trophy, the national cricketers will now be under Central Contract from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).


A working committee meeting of the elected committee of the CAN which is currently under suspension from the government decided to award Central Contract to 18 cricketers. The cricket governing body, however, has not disclosed the amount that will provided under the contract.


“18 national team members will be given Central Contract for one year bound by code of conduct,” a statement from the CAN read.


The meeting also decided to appoint former national team skipper Binod Das as the assistant coach of the national team for the ICC World Cricket League Division-II to be held in Namibia next month. It will be first national team assignment for Binod Das who previously guided the CAN-XI for the Uttarakhand Gold Cup Cricket Tournament in India.


Raman Shiwakoti is retained as the technical analayst with Dinesh Bhattarai working as the physiotherapist. CAN acting treasurer Diwakar Ghale has been appointed the manager for Division-II which will also be participated in by the Netherlands, Canada, Kenya, Uganda and Namibia.


It has also been decided that the national team members that won the Division-III title in Malaysia will be rewarded with Rs 50,000 each, while a Development Officer will be appointed in each of the nine regions in the development of cricket.


Likewise, the yet to be received Asia Cup Grant will be mobilized in various projects calling a tender notice or quotation. The cricket governing body also approved Nepal’s Division-II preparation tour for South Africa which will be probably begin from January 3-13.
