Nasir to replace Hafeez for Pakistan

Pakistan allrounder Mohammad Hafeez has been replaced by left hand opening batsman Nasir Jamshed for the World Cup. Hafeez has been ruled out due to a calf injury, which he picked while batting in the second ODI against New Zealand in Napier on February 3.

Nasir was approved by the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Event Technical Committee as a replacement player. The 25-year old opener Nasir has played 45 ODIs for Pakistan in which he has scored 1413 runs with three centuries and eight half-centuries. His last ODI was against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi in December, 2014.

Hafeez was eliminated from the World Cup after undergoing MRI scans on Friday in Sydney, following which he was advised a month-long rest. The allrounder was available only as a batsman in the tournament as he has been under suspension from the ICC over a suspected bowling action in December.

Pakistan begin their World Cup with a clash against arch-rivals India in Adelaide on February 15 in Pool B. West Indies, South Africa, Zimbabwe and qualifiers Ireland and the UAE are the other teams in the group.
