Mumbai Indians won the Maiden title of Pepsi IPL after defeating Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs in the finale on Sunday evening. Thanks to Kieron Pollard who batted incredibly well to take Mumbia who were struggling at 52 for four in 10th over to 148 in 20 overs, made fighting 60 runs of 32 balls.
In the match Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. Chennai bowlers made Mumbai’s decision to bat first as they kept pressure on batsmen right from the start. Albie Morkel and Mohit Sharma lead the pace attack to Chennai who bowled smartly and steadily.
Once the game seemed to be in the pocket of Chennai, then the danger man from West-Indies came to crease. The first ball Pollard faced he defended away for four. That was sweetly played. He just pushed at a short delivery, but the ball scurried along between the bowler and mid-off. Pollard who won man of the match eventually made 60 runs of just 32 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
Chennai came to chase the target of 149 with their inform opener Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay. TO win the match Mumbai needed a solid start from their fast bowlers. Malinga opened the bowling. He took two wickets in the first over. He bowled Hussey on one run while Suresh Raina was golden duck out on the very next ball Hussey was out.
As Chennai was in deep problem Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came at number seven. But seem to be pretty late. Though the captain made 63 off 45 when they were near to lose the match which only gave Mumbai an extended time on the field to celebrate the title even when the match was on.
Four players of Chennai including Suresh Raina, Subramaniam Badrinath, Rabindra Jadeja and Chris Morris was duck out which took the match from Chennai to Mumbai.
