Fan favourite Mehboob Alam rode his luck to sneak inside the national team as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Friday announced the final 14-member squad that also sees the return of veteran leg spinner Raj Kumar Pradhan after six years.
Picked up for the preliminary 18, Mehboob was heading towards a close exit from the team but after left arm medium pacer Amrit Bhattarai sustained an injury, the once most sensational player in Nepali cricket hit the jackpot.
Mehboob has returned to the team after his last appearance in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers. The selection committee of the cricket governing body was preparing to include right arm medium pacer Ramnaresh Giri along with emerging all rounder Aarif Sheikh a confirmed candidate along with Raj Kumar.
Rajkumar has been picked up for the national side after he last competed in the 2008 ACC Trophy. Among other teams in the squad for the ACC Premier League included skipper Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar, Subash Khakurel, Shakti Gauchan, Basanta Regmi, Som Pal Kami, Binod Bhandari, Naresh Budhayer, Sagar Pun and Binod Bhandari.
Bhuwan Karki, Yagya Man Kumal and Pushpa Thapa were named reserves. Nepal will meet Afghanistan, Hong Kong, UAE, Malaysia and Oman in the ACC Premier League beginning fromMay 1 in Malaysia. The tournament is played under round robin league for the first time.
