McCullum brothers and Ronchi stars as NZ win

New Zealand won the first T20 international against West Indies with a margin of 81 runs played at Eden Park, Auckland on Saturday. With the win New Zealand lead the two match series by 1-0.


In the match New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand managed to make 189 runs with the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs.


Captain Brendon McCullum was the highest run scorer for New Zealand who made 60 runs of 45 balls with two fours and four sixes.


Wicket Keeper batsman Luke Ronchi who came to bat at number seven also made 49 runs of just 25 balls. Ronchi was also won the man of the match award kept three fours and fours sixes in his name.


Chasing the target of 190 runs West Indies were able to make just 108 runs with the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.


Wicket keeper batsman Andre Fletcher was the highest run scorer for West Indies who made 23 runs in 25 balls.


Nathan McCullum destroyed West Indies batting line up taking four wickets in his four overs and conceding 24 runs.


Second and final T20 International of the series will be played on 15 January at Wellington.
