Neil Dexter played a captain’s game as Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) rounded of their Nepal tour with a fine 40-run victory over Nepal XI at the TU Stadium .
In the Twenty20 match, Dexter’s aggressive 83 off 51 was the major highlight in MCC innings before he backed up his batting performance with the figures of 4-27 from four overs. Dexter lifted MCC to 169-3 in 20 overs before stopping Nepal XI at 129-8 in their 20.
At 38-3, Gyanendra Malla and Rajesh Pulami Magar kept Nepal XI in hunt with a 53-run stand before Dexter removed both batsmen consecutive balls to end the hosts’ challenge.
Rajesh made 26 off 22 and Gyanendra struck 23 off 15 with both batsmen getting two fours and a six each. Dilip Nath made an 18-ball 17 up the order, while Sumit Maharjan needed 19 balls to get that score in a boundaryless innings.
Apart from Dexter, Alex McQueen also picked up two wickets for MCC. Dipendra Airee (11) and Subash Khakurel (11) were other batsmen to score runs in double figures.
Earlier, Michael Coles (27) was the leading scorer for MCC’s top three before Dexter put up his show. He smashed Karan KC for 30 runs in the final over of their innings.
Dexter lifted the MCC innings with an 88-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Steve Clark (16). George Adair made 19 off 20, while Greg Holmes chipped in 12. Karan, Irshad Ahmed and Dipendra picked up a wicket each for Nepal XI. The MCC team left for England.
