Rupani Riders opened their account with victory in the third edition of Mayor Cup Saptari Premier League on Sunday.
At the Raj Stadium, Riders defeated Bode Barsain Thunders by 13 runs on the back of a half century from opener Sunil Dhamala. Put in to bat first, Riders made a challenging 147-7 from 20 overs before Sumit Jha ripped through Thunders batting order to restrict them to 134 all out in 20.
Narayan Joshi top scored for the losing side with 33 runs, while skipper Siddhant Lohani made 24, Yogendra Singh Karki and Bikash Das contributed 17 runs apiece. Jha gave away just 25 runs in his four-over spell, while Anil Yadav also took two wickets.
Dhamala, who had also struck a half century in the Mayor’s Cup final against Nepal APF Club in Kathmandu, contributed a 37-ball 54 that included five fours and three sixes.
Niraj Mukhiya chipped in 19, Anil was unbeaten on 17 and Anuj Yadav returned 15 not out in collective Riders batting effort. Bishal Sushling took three wickets for Thunders. Dhamala was named the man-of-the-match.
On Monday, Dipendra Singh Airee-led Tilathi Koilaadi Giants will take on Bajaj Khadka Warriros skippered by another national team allrounder Pawan Sarraf. Thunders will play Mehboob Alam’s TVS Kings Rajbiraj in the day’s second game.
