Kanchanjunga International Pvt Ltd is organizing the first Marwadi Cricket League (MCL) from May 10-17.
The tournament will feature eight teams vying for the title in a league-cum-knockout format. The winners of the tournament will get Rs 61,000 and losing finalist will take home Rs 41,000. The man-of-the-series will also get an internet connection from Gnext Powerbank worth Rs 25,000.
Shailendra Khadka, CEO of the sports event management company, said it was their small step to identify cricketing talents in the Marwadi community. According to the organizers, Tribhuvan University grounds will host first few games of the tournament with Pulchowk Engineering College hosting semi-finals and final.
The company includes former and current national crickets and Bhairahawa opening batsman Subash Pradhan is one of them. “Only cricketers can understand how cricket can be taken to another level in the country. We are taking just a step with the MCL and in coming future we will host several other tournaments as well,” said Pradhan who played ACC U-19 Elite Cup for Nepal.
Each team can include three non-marwadi players that could also include national team cricketers. The best batsman, bowler, wicketkeeper along with fairy play team will get a connection of Netis ADSL Router, while every man-of-the-match will also get a videocon mobile.
Kanchanjunga recently organised the MGVC Inter-college National Cricket Tournament in Butwal last month. “We have been getting pretty good response from the sponsors. If we get support from every sector, certainly we can make cricket a big thing,” said Manoj Baishya, a representative from the company.
