Nepal are taking on Malaysia in their final Group ‘A’ match of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup on Tuesday. To seal a place in the semi-finals, Nepal must beat Malaysia and wait for the result of the another group game between India and Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, even a victory against Malaysia might not suffice for Nepal if India beat Bangladesh. To have an edge on the points table, Nepal must win against Malaysia by a huge margin.
If Bangladesh beat India, a normal victory over Malaysia for Nepal will see them through. Here is what Nepal coach Binod Das and skipper Dipendra Singh Airee had to say before this crucial game:
Coach Binod Das: This will be like qualifier for us. The main target tomorrow is to be at our best and win as handsomely as we can. The equation depends upon the other match too. We will wait for the first innings to end and then come up with the numbers. Not a bad place to be after the result of first match, but still the primary target will be to win big. We need to finish the league round strongly so that we can send message that we are a strong side.
Captain Dipendra Singh Airee: We don’t have any option except winning. Bangladesh’s heavy win over Malaysia means the road is tough. Our target will be to bundle Malaysia to a low score if we bowl first, or score big if we bat. The result between India and Bangladesh will also matter, but we will give our best against Malaysia. The game against India was a great motivation to the squad. We are hopeful of getting into semifinal.
