Former skipper Binod Das and wicketkeeper batsman Mahesh Chhetri were among the preliminary 22-member squad for the ACC Emerging Teams Cup.
Binod last played for the national team in the ICC World Cricket League Division-IV in Malaysia in September last year, while Mahesh was included in the preliminary squad for the first time in two years. Mahesh was not even in the squad for the 2011 ACC Twenty20 that was held in Kathmandu.
He has been brought as a cover for opening batsman and regular wicketkeeper Subash Khakurel who returned from the Sri Lanka U-23 League early due to illness. Mahesh last played for the national team during the 2010 Asian Games cricket in Guangzhou, China.
The Emerging Teams Cup will be participated in by U-23 teams from Asian Test playing nations along with full strength sides from Nepal, Afghanistan, UAE and Singapore. Singapore are hosting the tournament from August 17-25.
CAN has also included U-19 seamers Avinash Karn and Yagya Man Kumal along with Ram Naresh Giri, Jitendra Mukhiya, Naresh Budhayer and Sagar Pun.Other names in the preliminary squad included the team that won the ICC World Cricket League Division-III in Bermuda on May 5.
Paras Khadka, Subash Khakurel, Sharad Vesawkar, Gyanendra Malla, Prithu Baskota, Binod Bhandari, Pradeep Airee, Basanta Regmi, Sanjam Regmi, Amrit Bhattarai, Chandra Saud, Rahul Kumar BK, Shakti Gauchan and Anil Mandal were the part of the team that won Division-III title.
The close-camp for the ACC Emerging Teams Cup is beginning on July 9.
