Mahesh, Anil make record as TAC in final

Mahesh Chhetri smashed a ton and Anil Mandal blasted his fourth century in domestic cricket as Tribhuvan Army Club sailed into the final of the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the Tribhuvan Unversity Stadium grounds on Monday.

Electing to bat first, Mahesh and Anil scripted the overall story of TAC lifting the team to 329-6 in 50 overs where a record 247-run stand made the difference. Baitadi, in reply, were 211 all out in 36.2 overs with a ninth wicket century stand saving humiliation for them.

Mahesh was out on 98 in the TAC’s first match against Janakpur but he made amends by cruising to his first century in domestic circuit that will also give him bigger points in knocking the national team doors.

Anil, who was already in the record books after making two centuries before this match to become the first batsman with three centuries, kept getting better and poses a big threat to Naresh Budhayer who has not performed in terms of numbers.

Mahesh and Anil broke their own stand of 215 runs against Janakpur to set a new benchmark. Anil smashed 15 boundaries in his 125-ball 128, while man-of-the-match Mahesh notched up 134 off 143. He hit 14 boundaries and a six.

Basant Khatri picked up three wickets for Baitadi, while Kamal Airee picked up two wickets.

Baitadi were down and out when Sompal Kami, returning from his successful Sri Lanka tour, picked up three quick wickets before they were reduced to 105-8 in 25 overs.

Basant and Prashant Bist then gave TAC bowlers a day to forget at the end of the innings with a 106-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Basant was devastating in his 30-ball 53 that included five sixes and three boundaries. Prashant made 62 off 45 with five fours and three sixes.

Apart from Sompal, Sagar Pun and Basanta Regmi also picked up two wickets each for TAC. They now meet Nepal APF Club on Tuesday’s final.
