Avinash Luitel picked up a hat-trick in his five-wicket haul as Lord Buddha Cricket Club (LBCC) thumped SMC Baneshwor by 96 runs in the Kathmandu Cricket League that began at the Tundikhel grounds on Saturday.
In the Group ‘B’ game, LBBC made a respectable 149-9 in 40 overs before Avinash ran riot in the top and middle order squeezing out SMC for just 53 runs in 18.3 overs. SMC innings collapsed after a 32-run opening wicket stand between Binod Thapaliya (15) and Tridev (14) as they lost their 10 wickets for just 21 runs.
Avinash accounted for five of the first eight SMC wickets to fall. The other three were taken by Manish Shrivastav. Avinash’s hat-trick came in the 13th over after he dismissed Tridev, Anil Bartaula (zero) and Sushil Acharya (duck) in the first three deliveries.
Krishna Gajurel also picked up two wickets for LBCC. Apart from the openers, there were no batsmen scoring runs in double figures for SMC.
Earlier, Suraj Thapaliya and Sanjeev Khanal steadied LBCC with a 52-run second wicket stand before a middle order collapse left them reeling at 111-7 in 32.2 overs.
Sanjeev topscored with 30 off 67 and Suraj contributed 22 to the total. Prasoon Thapa lifted LBCC with a run-a-ball 29. Surprisingly, LBCC innings read no boundaries.
Sushil Acharya picked up three wickets for SMC, while Anil Bartaula and Krishna Singh Negi picked up two wickets each. On Sunday, Baluwatar Cricket Club will take on New Vision Club in a Group ‘D’ game.
