National team skipper Rubina Chhetri bowled a five-for helping Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club reach the final of the Women’s National at the TU Stadium on Friday.
In tournament’s second semi-final, defending champions APF hammered Region-V (Nepalgunj) by seven wickets to set the title clash with Region-VII (Janakpur) with Rubina making it an easy ride for the holders.
Nepalgunj were bundled out for a lowly 65 in 36.5 overs. The only relief for Nepalgunj in the match was three APF wickets they managed to before the departmental side reached 66-3 in just 15.3 overs.
APF were reduced to 14-2 in 4.2 overs after losing opener Sita Rana Magar (three) and No 3 Jyoti Pandey (six) cheaply. Sarita Magar and Madhu Thapa took them close to victory with a 29-run third wicket stand.
Anu KC dismissed Madhu in the 10th over before Sarita and skipper Neera Rajopadhyaya (seven not out) guided the team home. Sarita was unbeaten on 22 off 37 with three boundaries, while Madhu made 16 off 23 with three hits to the fence.
Tishna Singh and Samjhana Sharma were other Nepalgunj bowlers to pick up wickets. Earlier, Nepalgunj top and middle order succumbed to Rubina’s lethal bowling. Skipper Mamta Thapa did the bulk of scoring making 25 off 63 with three boundaries.
Player of the match Rubina returned the figures of 5-12 from eight overs, while Sita picked up two wickets. Ritu Kanojiya, Binu Budha Magar and Neera also picked up a wicket each. The final is slated for Saturday.
