Lalitpur remain in the hunt

Lalitpur registered their third victory in the Senior Regional Twenty20 Selection Tournament for Region No 3 (Kathmandu) at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Monday.


Lalitpur remained in the haunt to clinch the top spot in the league tournament with a crushing 45-run victory over Nuwakot. In another match, Bhaktapur defeated Tribhuvan University (TU) by 11 runs.


Fair contributions from Suraj KC and Adil Khan lifted Lalitpur to a respectable 124-9. Man-of-the-match Pritam Thapa then took three crucial wickets as Nuwakot were bundled out for 79 in 17.1 overs.


Nasim Akhtar (2-12) and Dipankar (2-18) shared four wickets between them for Lalitpur, while Milan Karki and Prabin Shakya took one wicket apiece. Rajesh Hamal (13) and Pramod Regmi (11) were the only Nuwakot batsmen to make runs in double figures.


Earlier, Suraj made a patient 41-ball 38 and the damage to Nuwakot was done by Adil who smashed 37 off just 26 deliveries. Adil hit four boundaries. Sujan Maharjan (16), Pawan Shrestha (14) and Prabin (10) also chipped in valuable runs to the total.


Abhiral Yadav took three wickets for Nuwakot , while Dipendra Pyakurel, Sanjay Shah and Birat Poudel also had one scalp each.


In the second match, Bhaktapur made 114-9 but they bowled well restricting TU to 103-9 after Prakash Bista returned with the figures of 3-10 in his four miserly overs. Purshottam Jha also had two victims with Anil Karki, Apurwa Ojha and Krishna Parajuli getting rid of one batsmen each.


Sudeep Sharma showed some aggression in his 14-ball 23 for TU hitting four boundaries. Amrit Acharya made 18 off 25 with two fours and Anil Adhikari and Uttam Bhatta made 11 runs each.


Earlier, Anil Karki top scored for Bhaktapur with a 39-ball 31 not out that included two hits to the fence. Sumit Maharjan made 21 off 38, while Sanjay Basnet and Purushottam Jha scored 14 runs each. Anil Adhikari (3-18) and Srijan Subedi (2-20) picked up five wickets together for TU. Chandra Khadka also got one wicket.


On Tuesday, unbeaten Kathmandu will play against winless TU and their victory will hand them the title. Nuwakot will play Bhaktapur in the second match.
