Suresh Kandel eclipsed a solid half century from Ashutosh Shukla to take Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) into the quarter-finals of the first KU Inter University Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Saturday.
In a 17-over-a-side Group ‘B’ match held in Dhulikhel, KUSOM defeated Kantipur Dental College (KDC) by five wickets. Ashutosh completed a brilliant half century making 66 off 49 to help KDC post a respectable 136-6.
However, man-of-the-match Suresh punished KDC bowlers smashing 53 off just 28 deliveries as KUSOM finished at 137-5 from 13.4 overs. Ankush Upreti also contributed a crucial 33 off 23 in KUSOM victory. Aashish Kumar Jha took two wickets for KDC.
In other matches, hosts Kathmandu University and Patan Academy of Health Science (PAHS) cruised to victories. KU edged Little Angels’ College of Management (LACM) by seven runs and PAHS overcame Asian Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) by six wickets.
KU made 145-9 in a match reduced to 18 overs after they decided to bat first. Pawan Neupane, Pragesh Dhungel and Nabin Neupane then picked up two wickets each as LACM could only manage 138-8.
Chirag Man Kansakar made 17-ball 29 for LACM with four boundaries and a six, while Anuj Shah clobbered six boundaries making 29 off 30. Earlier, Raj Timilsina scored 27 off 20 and Krishna Bista made 21 off 25 for KU. Man-of-the-match Pragesh also shined with the bat making 17 off 15.
PAHS bundled out AITM for 110 in 15.3 overs before Sanjay made a patient 40-ball 37 guiding PAHS to 113-4 in 16.3 overs. Sanjay hit seven boundaries. Nakul Shahi completed PAHS chase with a 28-ball 27.
