Kings, Chauraha clash for title, Rs 1.5 million

A cash prize of Rs 1.5 million, championship at stake and the scorching heat to battle, a fitting finale awaits the Sagarmatha Cement Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) where Paras Khadka’s Team Chauraha Dhangadhi will lock horns with Sharad Vesawkar’s Biratnagar Kings.Sharad has been one of the most successful captains in domestic cricket off late having lifted the Nepal Premier League (NPL), a 50-over cricket tournament which was also held in Dhangadhi and Everest Premier League Twenty20 in Kathmandu.Sharad’s team has looked positive throughout the DPL and after reaching yet another final, a triple title looks to be in Kings grasp considering the SSP Cricket Grounds pitch and how their spinners have been making full use of it.But in front of Sharad’s bid for triple title is a resurgent Chauraha side and their skipper Paras who has hit back form. Chauraha were facing an early exit from the tournament after losing three back-to-back matches but they made a remarkable comeback by winning their last two matches with huge margin to leave behind two teams to qualify for playoffs.Their last three games have been clinical crushing Kathmandu Goldens by six wickets in the Eliminator and drubbing Rupandehi Challengers by 92 runs in the second Qualifier on Thursday. The brightest spot for Chauraha is Paras’ return to form.In a match where Chauraha needed to return with a handsome victory, Paras had hammered 42 runs from 21 balls against Challengers and 67 from 41 balls against the same side in the second Qualifier. Chauraha looks a good batting unit with the likes of experienced Anil Mandal, Raju Rijal, Prithu Baskota and Aarif Sheikh.Saurav Khanal, Amar Singh Routela and Ramnaresh Giri can also hit the ball a long way which they have already proved. The final is all going to be a bowling versus batting clash as Kings squad consists of effective spinners including tournament’s second leading wicket taker Sushil Kandel, leggie Sandeep Lamichhane, spinning all rounder Pawan Sarraf, Jitendra Mukhiya and Dipendra Singh Airee.Sharad himself has been effective with the ball while he has been the most consistent batsmen in the tournament and is the third leading scorer. Aasif Sheikh, Amit Shrestha and Dipendra will have the responsibility of lifting the team total.
