Khukhari, KYCDA open with victory

Khukhari Club and Kapilvastu Youth Cricket Development Academy (KYCDA) won their respective matches of the Wai Wai Gautam Buddha International Cricket Tournament in Taulihawa on Sunday.


Khukhari defeated Birgunj by 39 runs. Khukhari made 139-6 in 20 overs where Nischal Chaudhary top scored with a 34-ball 33. Dipendra Yadav then picked up three wickets as Birgunj were 103 all out in the last ball of their innings.


Ashok Chhetri also picked up two wickets for Khukhari, while Jitendra Shahani, Lal Bahadur Adhikari and Dhiraj Kumar also snared one each. Suraj Patel top scored for Birgunj with a 31-ball 27 hitting one boundary.


Kumar Thapa (14), Jitendra Yadav (11) and Akib Ansari (10) were the remaining batsmen to make runs in double figures.


Earlier, Nischal hammered two sixes and a boundary to lift Khukhari after Bijay BK and Sabin Shakya gave them a modest start wih a 39-run stand. Both batsmen made 22 each. Dhiraj Kumar played an 11-ball cameo of 19 for Khukhari.


Kumar Thapa picked up two wickets for Birgunj with Jitendra and Suraj taking a wicket each.


In the inaugural match of the day, Sushan Bhari Shrestha and Faijlur Rehman Khan demolised the visiting Gorakhpur side in KYCDA’s seven-wicket win. Gorkhapur were 86 all out in 19.1 overs before KYCDA reached 87-3 in 14.2 overs.


Pradeep Airee hammered 28 off 30 with one four and a six in KYCDA victory, while Faijlur also chipped in with 24 off 18 with four boundaries. Pranit Thapa was 14 not out.


Gorakhpur innings was left in tatters after Faijlur picked up the first three wickets before Sushan Bhari destroyed the middle order. Sushan Bhari returned with the figures of 4-7 from four overs.


Moinuddin Khan also picked up two wickets for KYCDA. Rahul Singh (25 off 24) and Sankta Prasad (17) were the only Gorakhpur batsmen to make runs in double figures.
