Region No 3 (Kathmandu) made a triumphant start in the Wai Wai U-19 Women’s National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament defeating Region No 8 (Pokhara) by seven wickets to shadow an all round performance from Pragya Pokhrel.
In a only notable fight from Pragya, Pokhara reached 92-5 in 20 overs before Kathmandu replied with 93-3 in 15.5 overs. Pragya was the only positive for Pokhara as her 42 not out from 40 balls guided Pokhara close to 100-run mark.
Pragya smashed six boundaries out of the eight in total for Pokhara. Opener Trishna Devkota (seven) was the next best scorer for Pokhara who got 22 extra runs. Raibna Bisunkhe took two wickets for Kathmandu and Asmin Karmacharya had one scalp.
Kathmandu had a perfect reply when openers Jyoti Pandey and Sandhya KC added 55 runs for the first wicket in 6.3 overs. Prabha Nepali gave Pokhara the breakthrough removing Jyoti for 24 off 20 that included two boundaries.
Pragya then took the wickets of Sandhya and Rabina Bhandari in her economical overs but by then the match had already slipped from Pokhara’s hands. Sandhya made 25 off 30 with four boundaries and Rabina chipped in 16 from 24. She hit two boundaries. Pragya took 2-8 from four overs.
