Defending champions Region-VII (Janakpur) knocked out Region-III (Kathmandu) to register their first victory in the Wai Wai Women’s U-19 Cricket Tournament defeating at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Monday.
In a match that was reduced to 20 overs due to rain, Janakpur defeated Kathmandu by seven wickets. Batting first, Kathmandu were restricted to 66-6 before the champions finished at 67-3 in 18 overs.
After the day’s first match between Region-III (Birgunj) and Region-V (NepalgunJ) was abandoned due to rain, Janakpur are also evenly poised to reach the last four. Both teams shared one point each following the abandonment.

Kathmandu got off to a decent start when openers Kanchan Shrestha and Sandhya KC added 29 runs for the first wicket in 10 overs. Both batswomen made 11 runs each before they were dismissed in a space of three balls.
Janakpur didn’t let Kathmandu batswomen play freely after that but conceded 22 extra runs enabling their opponents to put some runs on the board. No 3 Sangita Gauchan top scored for Kathmandu with 13 runs of 34 balls.
Roji Kadari took 2-16 for Janakpur, while Amrita Chaudhary and Saraswoti Chaudhary also had one victim apiece.

Earlier in the match that was already reduced to 14 overs, Birgunj made 50-6 courtesy 23 extra runs gifted by Nepalgunj bowlers. None of the Birgunj batswomen managed to cross double digits with a not out nine from Nisha Giri being the best. However, continuous rain forced the abandonment of the match.
