In a bid to uplift the standard of grass root cricket, Himalayan Sports Management Pvt Ltd is organising the Kathmandu Cricket League which will be a battle between 12 clubs from Kathmandu and outside the capital.
The 50-over tournament between the clubs is organised after a long time by a private organization. Himalayan Cricket Academy (HCA), Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre (KCTC), Great Himalaya Cricket Academy (GHCA), Lord Buddha Cricket Club (LBCC), Ultimate Indoor Cricket, SMC Baneshwor, G-Force Cricket Academy, SS Events Cricket Team, Dhangadi United, New Vision Club, Srijananagar Cricket Club and Baluwatar Cricket Club are participating in the 15-day league-cum-knockout tournament.
The participating teams have been divided into four groups with the pool winners after a round robin league making it to the semi-finals. All the matches will be held at the Tundikhel grounds with the semi-finals on April 9 and 10 and final the next day. “We aim to develop this event as a blend of young and experienced players from where new talents would find their place in the national level,” said Sudeep Sharma, the tournament director.
Organisers said there is a reason behind hosting the tournament in Tundikhel. “Tundikhel also has a historical value regarding Nepali Cricket as it has been the center of club-level cricket for a long period of time. It is also the origin to various players currently playing in national side. We want to revive that legacy of cricket which Tundikhel carries by providing a platform for future stars of Nepali cricket,” a statement from the organisers read.
