Medium pacer Karan KC bombed in from nowhere to find a place in the 18-member squad announced on Tuesday for the final round of selection for the ICC World Cricket League Division-III.
The squad saw the omission of batsmen Pradeep Airee and Mahesh Chhetri, who have been ignore for their poor form, while Pushpa Thapa, Manjeet Shrestha, Yagyaman Kumal, Avinash Karn and Jitendra Mukhiya were the others to face the axe.
While Jitendra and Avinash have injury concerns, Pushpa, Manjeet and Yagyaman lost the race to be amongst the best in the team. With growing injury concerns for left arm seamer Amrit Bhattarai, who is in the verge of comeback, KC has been brought as a cover for the Nepal APF Club bowler.
“We are already short of fast bowlers after losing Jitendra and Avinash due to injury. Amrit is not 100 per cent fit but we are expecting him to be fit ahead of Division-III. Just in case he doesn’t prove his fitness, KC will be a better replacement,” said coach Pubudu Dassanayake.
KC was not included in the preliminary squad of 24 members. U-19 skipper Bhuwan Karki and his teammate Ram Naresh Giri remained in course to win a place in the national team along with talented young all rounder Aarif Sheikh.
Other members in the team included skipper Paras Khadka, vice-captain Gyanendra Malla, Subash Khakurel, Naresh Budhayer, Sharad Vesawkar, Sagar Pun, Binod Bhandari, Mehboob Alam, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Som Pal Kami, Anil Mandal and Rahul Kumar BK.
