National team skipper Paras Khadka said right arm fast bowler Karan KC deserved the man-of-the-match for his scintillating performance that shaped Nepal’s seven-wicket victory over Canada in the ICC World Cricket League Division-II in Namibia on Tuesday.
Karan’s ripped through the top order returning with the tournament’s best figures of 5-26 from 10 overs that saw Canada squeezed out for 114 in 49.2 overs. Nepal went on to win the match by seven wickets with 161 balls to spare but it was the skipper himself who walked away with the man-of-the-match accolade.
Paras had made 77 off 78 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes forging a huge 114-run stand for the third wicket with Gyanendra Malla after openers Subash Khakurel and Naresh Budhayer were dismissed for duck with Nepal yet to open their account.
“I think bowlers set us up for the win. Karan was really exceptional today. It was the fast bowling combination of Sompal (Kami) and Karan that has been working for us in the tournament. Karan deserved to be man-of-the-match,” said Paras.
In his opening seven-over opening spell, Karan took four out of five Canada wickets to fall reducing them to 22-5 that made life difficult for the four-time World Cup participating team.
Karan is playing his first international tournament for Nepal but he went wicketless in the first two matches despite bowling tight spells. He had the figures of 7-0-27-0 against Uganda in the first game which Nepal lost by two runs and 7-3-10-0 against the Netherlands who were defeated by two wickets.
