Kanchanpur claim U-16 regional title

Kanchanpur won the title of the U-16 Regional Cricket Tournament for Region No 9 (Dhangadhi) defeating Kailali by 39 runs in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.


In the final match, Kanchanpur made 155-7 after electing to bat first and sent Kailali packing for just 115 in 28.1 overs.


Krishna Tiwari and Arun Airee picked up two wickets each for Kanchanpur. Sandeep Khadka and Suraj Tiruwa made 19 each for Kailali becoming the only players to reach double figures in the match.


Earlier, Kanchanpur built on a super 61-run stand for the fourth wicket between Naresh Bohora (nine) and Sandeep Jora. Sandeep hammered four boundaries and a six in his 61-ball 45.


Krishna Tiwari chipped in 15, while Puran Singh and Krishna Thagunna made 12 runs each.


Suraj and Kiran Chand picked up two wickets each for Kanchanpur, while Mahesh Adhikari was smashed for 32 runs in his three-over spell.


Aman Panthi of Doti wsa name the man-of-the-series, while Sandeep Khadka of Kailali was adjudged the best batsman.


Narendra Awasthi of Doti took the best bowler’s award, Narendra Awasthi of Kanchanpur was named the best fielder and 12-year old Subodh Aair of Kailali took the Rising Player’s honour.


The top performers from the tournament will be picked up for the U-16 National Cricket Tournament.
