Kanchanpur, Bhairahawa win opener

Region No 9 (Kanchanpur) and Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) began with victory in the Wai Wai U-19 Women’s National Cricket Tournament at the TU grounds on Friday.

 

 

In the opening day, Kanchanpur hammered Region No 2 (BirgunJ) by 91 runs riding on 46 runs from Bimala Bhatt. Bhairahawa overcame Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) by eight wickets.

 

The day belonged to Bimala whose 68-ball 46 that included three boundaries lifted Kanchanpur to 114-1 in 20 overs. Bimala added 54 runs for the opening wicket with Nirmala Chand who made 20 off 28 with two fours.

 

After the fall of Nirmala, Bimala added another unbeaten 60 with Bindu Rawal (19 not out). Pooja Giri took the only wicket for Birgunj who were 97 all out in 17.2 overs with only 46 extra runs taking them close to triple figures.

 

Poonam Paswan picked up 3-37 for Kanchanpur with Bimala and Bindu also getting two each. Rabina Ghimire (14) and Subhadra Adhikari (10 not out) were the only Birgunj batswomen to make runs in double figures.

 

Bhairahawa restricted Nepalgunj to 92-6 in a game where extras were once again the highest scorers. Kamala BC (18) and Geeta Gosai (17) made runs in double figures for Nepalgunj. Sima Thapa picked up two wickets, while Prabina Khadka and Aarati Koirala had one scalp apiece.

 

Bhairahawa reached 94-2 in 17.5 overs after Nepalgunj gifted them 36 extra runs. Opener Nitu Bhandari top scored in the match with 26 off 38 that included two boundaries. Chanda Saru was 15 not out from 32 balls with two boundaries.
