Opener Kajol Shrestha slammed second consecutive half century landing Region No 1 (Biratnagar) a semi-final spot in the Wai Wai U-19 Women’s National Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Thursday.
Kajol – who had hammered a half century against Region No 8 (Pokhara) in Biratnagar’s last Group ‘A’ match on Wednesday – stroked exactly 50 in the team’s 49-run victory over Region No 6 (Baitadi) in tournament’s first semi-final.
Batting first, Biratnagar made 119-6 in 20 overs with Kajol staying at the crease until the 19th. Baitadi were 70 all out in 17.1 overs with a four-wicket haul from player-of-the-match Sanjhana Budhathoki.
Kajol gave a 32-run start to Biratnagar for the first wicket with Sangita Rai who made 11 off 13. After Sangita’s departure, Biratnagar lost the wickets of Gita Prasai (two), Roshina Rai (two) and Sanjana Budhathoki (eight) cheaply.
Kajol, however, ensured Biratnagar post a challenging with another 37 run stand with Roma Thapa. Kajol was finally dismissed after hitting six boundaries in 59 deliveries. Roma chipped in 16 off 17 with one boundary.
While the first half of the game belonged to Kajol, Sanjhana stole the limelight in the second part demolishing the top and middle order of Baitadi. Opener Kabita Kunwar top scored for Baitadi with a run-a-ball 16 hitting three boundaries.
Her opening partner Suman Gupta (11) and No 3 Manju Bokati (12) were the only other batswoman to make runs in double figures. Baitadi total was rather bolstered by 17 sundries from Biratnagar. Apart from Sanjhana, Sangeeta Rai also picked up two wickets with Sabnam Rai and Neha Karki getting one scalp apiece.
