Former captain and veteran middle order batsman Mahela Jayawardene will miss the third One Day International match against England which will be played at Hambantota on Wednesday. According to the Sri Lanka cricket board, Jayawardene has requested for a rest for the third ODI citing a personal reason.
Jayawardene had scored not out 77 runs from 80 balls which helped Sri Lanka win the second ODI and lead the five match series by 2-0. Jayawardene also won the man of the match award in the match.
As Jayawardene is sure to miss third ODI, Ashan Prianjan and Thilina Kandamby are the contender to replace him. Ashan who is 25 years old has been in the Sri Lanka team since their recent tour of India. 32 years old Kandamby has not played for Sri Lanka in ODIs since 2011.
